Clutch integrates directly with Meridian Link's Consumer LOS platform (formerly known as LoansPQ) to connect your loan origination system with Clutch's digital account opening and lending experience. This article explains how the integration works, what it supports, and what to expect when setting it up.
Overview
Meridian Link's Consumer LOS is one of the most widely used loan origination systems among credit unions, and Clutch has built and supported this integration for a number of credit union partners. The integration allows loan and membership applications submitted through Clutch to flow directly into your Meridian Link environment, and allows updates made in Meridian Link, such as decisions and status changes, to flow back into Clutch in near real time.
How the Integration Works
When a member completes an application, Clutch submits it to your Meridian Link Consumer LOS environment using Meridian Link's standard application interface and the Common Loan Format (CLF), the data structure Meridian Link uses to represent loan and account applications. This keeps applicant information, loan details, and initial disclosures consistent between the two systems, so your team doesn't need to re-key data.
Once an application is submitted, Meridian Link handles decisioning according to how your credit union has it configured, whether that's automated underwriting, external scoring, or manual review by your loan officers.
Real-Time Status Updates
Clutch connects to Meridian Link's Automated Actions feature so that changes to a loan's status in Meridian Link are sent back to Clutch as they happen, rather than Clutch having to check periodically for updates. In practice, this means a decision made in your LOS is typically reflected in Clutch within a few minutes, keeping your staff and members looking at current, accurate status information.
What the Integration Supports
Application and Decisioning Data
The integration passes the full application record, including applicant information, loan details, and internal notes, into Meridian Link, and it is compatible with both the Classic and Modern Meridian Link user interfaces.
Custom Scoring and Decisioning Frameworks
Many credit unions use Meridian Link's External Scoring and Decisioning Framework or custom credit score models to automate underwriting decisions. Clutch's integration is compatible with these configurations, and our implementation and support teams are experienced in helping credit unions understand how their specific product setup affects the outcomes members see, including why an application might receive an instant decision.
Marketing Attribution
If your credit union wants to track where loan applications originate, Clutch can pass marketing attribution details, such as campaign and lead source identifiers, into custom fields in Meridian Link, provided those fields are configured on your side.
Notes and Comments
Meridian Link does not support multiple separate comment submissions through its interface, so Clutch consolidates all application notes into a single, clearly formatted comment that displays correctly whether your team uses the Classic or Modern interface.
Loan and Account Types Supported
The integration supports the consumer lending and account opening products most commonly originated through Meridian Link, including vehicle loans, personal loans, home equity products, and credit cards, as well as new membership and deposit account applications.
Getting Started
Setting up the Meridian Link integration is a joint effort between your credit union and Clutch's implementation team. At a high level, here's what to expect:
- Kickoff and scoping: Your Clutch implementation team confirms which loan and account products you want to originate through the integration and how decisioning is configured in your Meridian Link environment.
- Access and allow-listing: Your Meridian Link administrator grants Clutch API access and adds Clutch's systems to your allow list so the two systems can communicate securely.
- Sandbox testing: Before going live, applications are tested in a sandbox environment to confirm data maps correctly and decisions flow back as expected.
- Go-live: Once testing is complete, Clutch and your team move the integration to production.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did an application show up as "instantly approved" in Meridian Link?
This is usually the result of Meridian Link's External Scoring and Decisioning Framework, a feature some credit unions configure directly with Meridian Link to automatically decision applications that meet certain criteria. It is not something Clutch sets on your behalf. If you see unexpected instant decisions, your Clutch support contact can help you confirm how your product is configured.
How quickly do loan status changes appear in Clutch after a decision is made in Meridian Link?
With real-time status updates configured, changes typically appear in Clutch within a few minutes of the decision being made in Meridian Link.
Does the integration work with both the Classic and Modern Meridian Link interfaces?
Yes. Clutch's integration is built to work correctly regardless of which interface your team uses day to day.
Can Clutch support our credit union's custom underwriting rules or scoring model?
Yes. Clutch's integration is compatible with custom scoring and decisioning configurations. Your implementation team can talk through your specific setup during onboarding.
What does our credit union need to provide to get started?
Primarily, access for your Meridian Link administrator to complete a short configuration step and allow-list Clutch's systems, along with time to test in a sandbox environment before going live. Your Clutch implementation engineer will guide you through each step.
