Digital Account Opening (DAO) applications don’t always make it to submission—especially when applicants pause during funding or consent steps. To help reduce drop-off and maximize completed account openings, Clutch now enables Credit Union staff to resume eligible applications and complete them without restarting the process.
Below are answers to the most common questions about how application resume works and what to expect.
What does it mean to “resume” an application?
Resuming an application allows a Member Service Representative (MSR) to pick up an in-progress account opening from where the applicant left off—before fraud validation—so it can be completed efficiently and accurately.
Once resumed, the application follows the same workflow as an in-branch account opening.
What are the benefits of resuming applications?
Higher completion rates by reducing abandoned applications
Faster member support without restarting the process
Consistent workflows across digital and branch channels
Strong compliance controls, including consent re-collection and audit logging
Which applications can be resumed?
An application is eligible to be resumed if it meets all of the following criteria:
It has progressed beyond PII entry
It has not yet reached fraud validation (Alloy)
It was created at least 1 hour ago (this is customizable)
It has not been resumed by another MSR within the last hour
Applications that have reached fraud validation or an end state (approved, denied, or cancelled) cannot be resumed.
Why can’t applications be resumed after fraud validation (Alloy)?
Once an application is submitted for fraud validation, it is actively evaluated using the data provided at that time. Editing information after submission could:
Create compliance risk by introducing multiple versions of applicant data
Invalidate fraud decisions already made
Increase costs, since fraud services incur fees with each submission
For these reasons, applications that have reached fraud validation are locked from resuming.
Where does a resumed application start?
All resumed applications begin at the Review screen, allowing the MSR to clearly see what information is missing and complete the remaining steps.
What steps can be completed after resuming?
Depending on where the applicant dropped off, resumed applications may include completion of:
Membership selection
Consent collection
Funding
Fraud validation
Core booking
If an application dropped off after fraud validation, it is not eligible for resume.
Can MSRs edit application information?
Yes—most fields are editable, allowing staff to support members effectively.
For compliance reasons, Social Security Numbers (SSNs) cannot be edited once entered.
How is consent handled in resumed applications?
Consent is always re-collected when an application is resumed, even if it was previously captured. This ensures compliance and provides a clear audit trail.
Can more than one MSR resume the same application?
No. When an MSR clicks Resume, the application is soft-assigned to that MSR for one hour. During that time, no other staff member can resume or edit the same application.
Can Credit Unions configure the lock time?
Yes. The default one-hour lock period is configurable based on your Credit Union’s preferences.
What happens if an applicant tries to resume their application?
Applicants cannot resume applications themselves. This is a Staff Portal–only capability designed to support assisted completion.
Does resuming an application change the application ID?
No. The application keeps the same ID to preserve data integrity and simplify reporting and tracking.
Do resumed applications follow a different workflow?
No. Once resumed, the application follows the same workflow and business rules as branch-generated applications, regardless of whether it originally started online or in-branch.
Who can access the resume feature?
In the current release, all MSRs with access to the Staff Portal can resume eligible applications. Role-based restrictions may be added in future releases.
How does Clutch ensure compliance and auditability?
Every resumed application includes:
Re-collected consent
MSR and branch metadata
Timestamps indicating when the application was resumed and completed
This ensures a complete and auditable record of staff-assisted account openings.
